Nicks' Family Grocery in Winthrop, IA will be the new home of Fat Chefs Catering, founded by Nick Dennie and Nick Wilgenbusch in 2013. After being asked many times by friends and neighbors to prepare meat for graduation parties and other events, the duo decided to make it official and form a business. Initially, the catering jobs were run out of the Winthrop Locker, owned by Nick Wilgenbush. When the volume of catering gigs continued to grow, the business pursued dedicated facilities. From 2016 to present, catering work has been done in two separate facilities built or renovated for that purpose on Nick Dennie’s residential properties.

When the owners of McElroy’s decided to sell their store and exit the Winthrop market, Nick and Nick saw a tremendous opportunity. Not only could they be part of saving a small town grocery and deli, they could have access to a dedicated facility that would allow their catering business to continue to grow. They recently purchased the business, the building and all equipment. The store is open to the public with a full line of groceries, meats and deli - and the capacity for expanded catering volume.
